Coding is a big hit these days there are so many programs to choose from. I wanted to talk about coding for kids with the CodeSpark app. I gave this app a try with Wetson he is my 5-year-old. Saying he LOVED it is a total understatement. It’s hard to find a coding product that caters to preschoolers. I have wanted to teach my kiddos coding for a while and so this is a great way to start. You can also use this app whether you homeschool or just want to add a little extra STEAM into your kiddos lives. There is also a code at the end of this article for a 14-day FREE trial along with video clips of the app itself.
This coding app is great for 5-9-year-olds to use to learn how to code. I love that it doesn’t use words so it makes it easy for younger kiddos to understand what they are doing on their own. It kind of gives them a little independence to learn. It is a great app for boys or girls to use it has cute little characters to choose from. Not only do parents love it but teacher love it too and some use it for their students! It isn’t just an app for coding it also has a few mini-games to keep your kids learning while also having fun.
Benefits of coding
Coding is a great skill to have and to learn. It can kick-start STEM interest meaning that it could be fun learning how science, technology, and math can be fun. It helps open up a child’s mind and get creative juices flowing allowing them to build fun games. There are so many skills that can be taught through coding like logic, problem-solving, coordination, determination and more. Coding is also great for critical thinking since you have to take time to figure out how things work and you can’t just wing it. Kids can also learn the courage to try new things so they don’t get stuck in a rut.
Coding for beginners
CodeSpark is a great way to start your kiddos on the coding path. I think it is awesome to see how they can build their own small video game scene. It didn’t take my 5 year old long at all to figure out what he was suppose to do. I was a little hesitant at first since coding can be super technical and overwhelming. CodeSpark has made it possible for littles to code and learn while having fun. I love how this app gives you step by step what to do. It walks you through adding certain building elements to make a game map. Then you get to walk or play through your own creation.
I really enjoy this app I find it very age appropriate for teaching coding. I like that there are so many skills that can be taught with this app. Weston really enjoys playing it and building his own game scene. Not only is the CodeSpark app fun but the kids are learning while playing. Weston keeps asking to play it so that sounds like a win in my book! It is a little extra STEAM for our homeschool learning.
